Program Description
In the Internet of Things (IoT) Certificate program, students learn about IoT core concepts, components, and applications. Students identify key characteristics and features of IoT applications while examining hardware technologies and components that enable IoT devices to function. They explore the primary communication protocols that facilitate data exchange within IoT systems and understand how various sensors capture and transmit data under software control. Additionally, students examine hardware and software features and functions of common IoT applications. Students also learn about data generation, transmission, storage, and analysis in IoT ecosystems. Finally, students develop the skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise in IoT devices. This certificate program prepares students for careers associated with technical support of IoT devices and applications. Program Outcomes
- Apply fundamental information technology concepts in order to manage files and effectively use a variety of information technology tools
- Identify characteristics and features of widely used Internet of Things (IoT) applications
- Describe the functions of the main hardware components and technologies used in IoT devices
- Explain how the main IoT communication protocols are used in IoT applications
- Identify types of IoT sensors used to capture and transmit data under software control
- Explain how data is generated/gathered, transmitted, stored and analyzed by IoT applications
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems found in IoT devices
